Texas Road Rash Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome! Since we attract skaters of all levels, we have designed this page to answer questions we receive about the event and to relay terms that we expect our skaters to know before setting out on the course.
What is the distance? Marathon vs. Half Marathon
The Texas Road Rash marathon is approximately 28.2 miles. The half marathon is approximately 14.1 miles. The half marathon participants will loop the course 3 times and full marathoners will loop the course 6 times.
What is the elimination race?
We will host elimination race as part of the fun on Saturday during packet pickup. Skaters will skate a loop in the Dell Diamond parking lot with the last skaters to cross the finish line eliminated on each lap until we find the fastest racer! If speed is your forte, this is the race for you!
Can I handle skating this course?
The
course is a smooth, closed multiple looped course with both
start and finish in Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. Since this is a
chip-timed inline skate marathon that attracts skaters at all
levels, it is important that you are comfortable starting and
stopping, and that you can handle the terrain of the course.
There is a slight grade downhill on the course of approximately 7% grade. If you are not able to complete your first lap, sag wagon assistance from the Texas Road Rash staff will remove you from the course for the safety of yourself and others. If unsure about your ability to skate the Road Rash, we encourage you to check out the course prior to event day. As one of the nations' inline skate marathons, our course follows industry-standard difficulty levels. The course is swept with a street sweeper the morning of the event to eliminate gravel and any obstacles. City of Round Rock staff and police maintain the course throughout the race for safety.
What is the proper way to pass skaters?
While skating if you hear the words, pass left, that means skaters are coming up behind you and will be passing you to the left. If you are about to be passed by a faster skater, stay to the right. Also, if you're about to pass someone, please use the term "pass left." Recreational skaters are encouraged to stay to the right side of the course.
Where do I put my Race Number?
The small race number you receive goes on your helmet. The larger race number should be pinned to the right side of your right hip. As you skate by we'll be able to see your number.
How do I get to Old Settlers Park?
Take IH-35 to Highway 79 in Round Rock. Travel east on 79 about 5 miles (keep going!). Turn left on Harrell Parkway. The park is on the North side of Hwy 79, and the entrance is just West of the Dell Diamond.
What is the rain out policy?
Texas Road Rash is a rain or shine event. It's Texas, so it can rain one minute and be sunny the next. The decision to cancel the race is made at the discretion of the race director. Thunder and lightning will cancel Texas Road Rash. Please note, it can be raining in one part of Round Rock and not be raining out at the park. The website home page will be updated to reflect any potential delays or cancellations or call (512) 218-5540 x8 for our rainout hotline.
